Democrat Eric Giddens set to become newest Iowa State Senator

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA (March 19, 2019) — Iowa Democratic Party Chairman Troy Price issued the following statement tonight: “Tonight’s victory is a further testament to what matters most to our state: educating the next generation of Iowa leaders. Iowans elected Eric Giddens to the state senate because they believe that with leaders like Senator-elect Giddens, our children’s future will be in good hands. And unlike our opponent who is a champion for private school vouchers and Governor Reynolds’ Medicaid disaster — and someone whom voters already rejected last November — Eric has shown time and again his lifelong commitment to bettering our communities and creating opportunity for all. “It’s clear that Iowa Democrats are excited and organized, and are ready to get to work over the next year and a half. Thanks to the work of the Iowa Democratic Party, our partners in organized labor, and the assistance of fantastic presidential campaigns, we were able to win in one of the most competitive districts in the state. It’s been our goal to build a powerful party infrastructure that exists year-round and is prepared to organize at any given moment. Tonight’s victory shows us that we’re on the right track. “The Iowa Democratic Party is coming back stronger than anyone thought possible. We congratulate Senator-elect Eric Giddens and can’t wait to see him fight for Iowa families in the legislature.”
