DES MOINES, IOWA (February 22, 2019) — Iowa Division of Labor Commissioner Michael Mauro has announced his planned retirement for April 1. Commissioner Mauro was appointed by Governor Terry Branstad in April 2011, and has served Iowa in state and local government for more than 35 years.
Michael Mauro began his career with Iowa Division of Labor in April 2011 after serving as Iowa Secretary of State from January 2007 to December 2010. He also served as the Polk County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections from 1997 to 2006 and the Polk County Director of Elections from 1985 to 1996.
During his time with the Iowa Division of Labor, Mauro led the agency through a series of transformations, resulting in stronger relationships with Iowa businesses and safer workplaces across the state.
"I want to thank former Gov Terry Branstad for giving me the opportunity to serve in this position and Governor Reynolds for her support," said Mauro. "I have genuinely enjoyed my time as Labor Commissioner and, while I look forward to enjoying my retirement and spending more time with my family, I will miss the day-to-day activity that comes with the job."
