My team analyzed the gender identity and sexual orientation complaints of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission over a 4-year span to reveal which states see the least cases of LGBTQ discrimination.
Key findings:
- Iowa ranked #3 in the states with the least LGBTQ discrimination charges in the workplace with 0.1 per 100K residents
- 84% of these cases are related to sexual orientation, 13% are because of transgender status, and 3% fall under both
- Fewer than 1 in 5 charges end in merit resolutions for the charging party—in fact, 68% are dismissed.
