My team analyzed the gender identity and sexual orientation complaints of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission over a 4-year span to reveal which states see the least cases of LGBTQ discrimination.

Key findings:

  • Iowa ranked #3 in the states with the least LGBTQ discrimination charges in the workplace with 0.1 per 100K residents
  • 84% of these cases are related to sexual orientation, 13% are because of transgender status, and 3% fall under both
  • Fewer than 1 in 5 charges end in merit resolutions for the charging party—in fact, 68% are dismissed.

Check out the full results here. The wedding cake industry, adoption agencies, and airlines have all recently made controversial headlines for LGBTQ discrimination proving that we are far from equality.
