JOHNSTON, IOWA (June 17, 2021) — The curtain is rising once again on the Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards Showcase. Celebrating the achievements of students involved in high school musicals across the state, and featuring hundreds of students representing 33 Iowa high schools, the event will air on Iowa PBS Friday, July 9, 8:30PM.

The Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards program is a yearlong Des Moines Performing Arts community initiative. Throughout the year, theater professionals travel across the state to review high school productions, helping teachers and students enhance their talents and their schools' theater programs. The program culminates with the IHSMTA Showcase held at the Des Moines Civic Center.

After being canceled last year due to the pandemic, this year's awards showcase was altered for health and safety reasons. Each of the schools that were invited to perform recorded an excerpt from their school's musical separately on the Civic Center stage.

Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards Showcase will also air Sunday, July 11 at 5:30PM. In addition to its statewide broadcast, Iowa PBS .1 is available to livestream on iowapbs.org/watchpbs.org/livestream, the PBS Video App and YouTube TV. Iowa PBS programs, behind-the-scenes extras and more can be enjoyed on iowapbs.orgFacebook, and YouTube. Viewers can also stream their favorite shows on demand using the PBS Video App, available on iOS, Android and many streaming devices.

Support for Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards Showcase on Iowa PBS is provided by the Daniel and Ann Krumm Charitable Trust and Musco Lighting.
