DES MOINES, IOWA (February 18, 2019) — The 2019 Iowa ProStart Invitational will be held at the Hy-Vee Hall B — Iowa Events Center. The competition is open to the public, hence, no cover.

The competition is two-fold:

Culinary Competition, 7:30AM-12:30PM: One hour is all students have to create a three-course meal in this Top Chef-style competition. Teams are judged and critiqued on product taste, knife skills, teamwork, safety and sanitation, menu and recipe development, costing, and more.

Competing Schools: Adel-Desoto-Minburn High School ● Alburnett High School ● Davenport Community Schools ● Hampton-Dumont High School ●  Saydel High School ● Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School ● Waterloo West High School (3x Reigning Culinary Champions) ● Waukee High School

Management Competition, 1-2PM: This competition challenges students to create their own restaurant concept and pitch it to a team of Iowa restaurant industry professionals as though they're potential investors. Judges critique their concept, menu and costing, restaurant layout and staffing, marketing tactics, and how well students think on their feet with critical thinking scenarios.

The champions from both the Culinary and Management competitions will advance to the 2019 National ProStart Invitational in Washington DC, May 8-10.
