JOHNSTON, IOWA (April 21, 2021) — High-school students in Iowa can get a unique glimpse into the world of television production and public media while gaining practical and valuable experience in the industry. In order to broaden opportunities for minority and female-identifying high-school students, Iowa PBS is offering a television production mentorship program for summer 2021.

The unpaid mentorship program will give two students the opportunity to observe and gain hands-on experience in all aspects of media journalism including videography, lighting design, video-editing, graphic design, web production, and storytelling. Each student will shadow and assist Iowa PBS personnel during the process of creating broadcast and digital-content.

Iowa PBS's 2021 High School Mentorship Program begins Thursday, June 17, and runs through Tuesday, August 3. Students will have the opportunity to work with network staff during the production of any number of the following television programs:

* Market to Market

* Iowa Press

* Greetings from Iowa

* Iowa Ingredient

Interested applicants should provide a letter of support from a school advisor or community leader. Students should also write a one-page summary about themselves that describes their interest in television production and outlines their qualifications to be part of Iowa PBS's statewide network team. Applicants must complete an Iowa PBS Application for Employment and Applicant Survey found at iowapbs.org/employment.

More information, including applicant eligibility and submission information, is available at iowapbs.org/mentorship. Application materials should be submitted no later than May 7, 2021.
