Johnston, Iowa (October 31, 2017) - Iowa Public Television announced today the premiere of "Stealing Your Life with Frank Abagnale" Monday, November 13 at 8 p.m. Frank Abagnale, whose years as a con man were depicted in the 2002 film "Catch Me If You Can", tells his incredible life story and shares simple but effective tips on how to avoid becoming a victim of identity theft. According to the Federal Trade Commission, identity theft is the number one crime committed against American consumers; over 15 million victims annually or one victim every two seconds in the United States.   Abangale serves as AARP's Fraud Watch Network Ambassador and has been a consultant to the FBI for over four decades. During this hour-long program, he shares his insight and expertise as a world-renowned expert on the subject of identity theft and cybercrimes. Viewers will learn how one's identity can be readily stolen and the consequences of the many data breaches that have occurred recently.  "Technology breeds crime - it always has and it always will," Abangale said. "It has made stealing an identity incredibly easy. If I can become you, what I could do as you is only limited to my imagination." "Stealing Your Life with Frank Abagnale" was recorded in collaboration with AARP Iowa at an event at the IPTV studios in Johnston on October 3, 2017. Programming support for the "Stealing Your Life with Frank Abagnale" is provided by the Iowa Insurance Division and their Iowa Fraud Fighters program. Learn more at Iptv.org.
