Funding Iowa's Water Testing Program.   This year the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) terminated its IOWATER citizen water testing program.  The Iowa Chapter of the Sierra Club is calling on the DNR to expand its program of testing and monitoring of Iowa's rivers, streams, and lakes for pollution. To that end, the Iowa Chapter is calling on the DNR to increase the number of employees who are involved in testing Iowa's waterbodies and to increase the number of remote continuous water sensors. Learn more Volunteers Needed.  If you would like to volunteer for the Iowa Chapter, please let us know. Trump Budget Affects Advances in Iowa's Wind and Solar Power.  The budget the Trump administration presented to Congress slashes the Rural Utility Service (RUS) along with the Rural Housing Service and the Rural Business-Cooperative Service.  RUS funds the rural electric cooperatives projects, such as wind and solar farms and energy efficiency initiatives. In the Book Corner.  Suggestions for books, movies, and articles about climate change. Review of "Young People's Burden", peer-reviewed study of climate change by leading climate scientist James Hansen and 14 coauthors. Book Review of Climate of Capitulation , a book by Vivian E. Thomson who served on the Virginia State Air Pollution Control Board.  The book describes several cases related to coal-fired power plants and greenhouse gas emissions that came before the board. Wind Farm in Black Hawk County Proceeds.  The Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors were asked to implement a moratorium on wind farm construction.  Members of the Cedar Prairie Group fought back and the supervisors denied the moratorium.  Learn more

Iowa State Park Volunteer Day!   Volunteer to clean-up the state parks.   This in association with National Public Lands Day - which is a day of service that happens all across the country. Calendar of Events.  The Sierra Club Groups in Iowa have several events planned for the upcoming months. You are welcome to participate in these events.
