DES MOINES, IOWA (April 10, 2019) — Governor Kim Reynolds is encouraging Iowans to be aware of, and prepared for, the potential for severe weather and flooding over the next several days.
"Our partners at the National Weather Service are forecasting additional flooding impacts from the intense-weather system moving through Iowa and surrounding states over the next couple of days," said Gov Reynolds. "It's important for all Iowans to pay attention and be prepared for the impacts from this round of severe weather.”
National Weather Service offices are forecasting large amounts of precipitation today through Friday. One to two inches of rain are possible over large areas of Iowa, with isolated higher amounts. Rain will run off into streams and rivers, causing concerns for renewed river-flooding. Strong storms are possible Wednesday evening into Thursday for southwest and western Iowa, and may produce hail and damaging winds.
In addition, heavy snowfall is forecast for Nebraska, South Dakota, and Minnesota. The melting of this snow could cause renewed-flooding as it makes its way into the state's rivers and streams.
