Rain this past week, combined with more in the forecast, has resulted in changes to the projected crest of the Mississippi. The river is now forecast to crest at 16.8 FT on Thursday, October 11. River levels are expected to hover around 16.5 FT to 16.7 FT most of the week.
The current river level is 16.11 FT.
Based on the current and projected river levels, the following flood impacts and measures have been or will occur in the coming days.
Roads
- S Concord between Utah and River Drive, and Wapello and Miller between Railroad Avenue and S Concord are closed.
- Gaines St south of River Drive is being closed this morning.
- Portions of Beiderbecke will be closed as the river rises and water goes over the road this week.
- Spotty lane reductions will be placed in low areas along River Drive between Perry and Division Streets as the river rises and water encroaches on the roadway.
Recreation
- Credit Island is closed.
- The majority of the Riverfront Recreational Trail between Credit Island and Bettendorf City limits will be closed due to water over the trail in the coming days.
- Water is impacting LeClaire Park.
- The boat dock at Marquette Landing is not accessible due to river level.
Facilities
- Access to the Compost Facility, 2707 Railroad Ave, is available via Rockingham Rd/Hwy 22 to Wapello to Railroad Ave.
- Uprights for the floodwalls at Modern Woodmen Park are being installed today as a precautionary measure. Appropriate flood control will be placed when/if needed. The park remains open for business.
- The River’s Edge, the Freight House and Freight House Farmer’s Market, and Union Station will remain open for business.
Events
- All of the following events will be impacted at projected river levels. More details will be released reference alternate plans as they become available: The LULAC 2018 Military Salute, Run with the Bull 5K, and the Decker Dash 5K.
Other Measures
- Pumps have been, or will be set, and appropriate gates closed in various low-lying areas of the city.
