DAVENPORT, IOWA (February 20, 2019) — On Tuesday, February 19, Davenport Fire crews were dispatched to the 900 block of West Second Street shortly after 8:30PM for a structure fire. When crews arrived, smoke was coming from the rear of the building where the door was on fire. Chief Jim Morris says this is a vacant property; however, there were remnants of individuals living in it. The structure received minor damage. No injuries were reported. Chief Morris says the fire, which was intentionally set, remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office.

Twenty-five minutes later, DFD crews were dispatched to the 1900 block of Washington Street for an apartment structure fire. Chief Morris says occupants were evacuated from the apartment building and sprinklers were activated. The fire was caused by unattended cooking left on the stove. No injuries were reported. Fire damage was limited due to sprinkler activation.

The following is an update to the Sunday night fire at the Breckenridge Apartments. Chief Morris, Fire Marshal advises that the cause of the fire at the Sunday night fire at Breckenridge apartments was due to unattended cooking left on the stove.
