Gilda’s Club Quad Cities CEO Sally Werner was promoted to Senior Vice President of Affiliate Relations at Cancer Support Community, of which Gilda’s Club Quad Cities is an affiliate.
Joy McMeekan, Gilda’s Club Development Director, was named Interim Executive Director in October 2017. After an extensive external and internal candidate search, the Board of Directors named McMeekan CEO of Gilda’s Club Quad Cities effective February 19, 2018.
Werner, a Bettendorf resident, acted as the Executive Director for Gilda’s Club Quad Cities nearly 2 years before being recruited to the Cancer Support Community headquarters. When in the Executive Director role, Werner hired Joy to the Development Director position and knew immediately that she would be an asset to the organization and that Joy demonstrated the mission in every way.
Sally is elated that McMeekan has been chosen to fill the role of Executive Director of Gilda’s Club Quad Cities. “Gilda’s Club Quad Cities is celebrating twenty years of service to the community and since their inception they have been a role model and cutting edge provider of the Cancer Support Community”, says Werner. “Joy’s personal and professional history make her the perfect person to lead the organization for the next twenty years of providing support for all those impacted by cancer.”
McMeekan holds a BS degree from Iowa State University and has over 20 years business experience and a connection to cancer that gives her a personal understanding of the impact that the services  Gilda’s Club Quad Cities provides to our community.
Gilda’s Club provides hope, education and support to people with cancer and their loved ones. Through professionally led support groups, informational workshops and mind/body classes, people affected by cancer learn vital skills to improve the quality of their lives and make them better partners with their medical professionals. All programs and services are provided free of charge to our members.
