MOLINE, ILLINOIS (December 28, 2020) The Kiwanis Club of Moline, Illinois, recently issued $200.00 grants to each of 5 local organizations, for a total of $1,000.00. The funds are collected from member “happy and sad” announcement donations and placed into a (literal) piggy bank during weekly meetings. While dollars have recently been collected “virtually” over zoom meetings, members continue to be generous and send in their contributions to the fund, lovingly called “Porky Pig.”

For years, now, “Porky Pig” grant dollars have been given in various ways and amounts, but always to serve the community and youth in some way. This year, the dollars were granted as follows:

            Moline High School Share Joys

            Riverbend Food Bank

            Salvation Army (Moline) Heritage Corps

Toys 4 Tots, in memory of former Kiwanis member Dave Holst

            YMCA Nutrition Program

Reid Odean, Committee Chair for this fund, says “We are happy to contribute these dollars to local organizations and causes in need, particularly where youth are concerned. This year, more than ever, we are happy to once again be able to do some good, especially during the holiday season.”

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child, and one community at a time.
