MOLINE, ILLINOIS (December 18, 2023) — The Kiwanis Club of Moline, Illinois, will issue grants to five local organizations on Tuesday, December 19, at their weekly meeting. Each of the organizations will receive $350.00 towards their needs. The funds are collected from Kiwanis members during “happy or sad” announcements. A member of the Porky Committee goes around the room with an actual piggy bank (lovingly called “Porky Pig”). Members share an announcement of their choice for about a dollar per share. This is a long-standing meeting tradition, and members continue to be generous with their contributions to the fund.

For years, now, “Porky Pig” grant dollars have been given in various ways and amounts, but always to serve the community and youth in some way. This year, the dollars were granted as follows:

Children’s Advocacy Center

Gigi’s Playhouse

Moline High School Special Olympics Team

Salvation Army Heritage Corps, Moline

Toys for Tots (In memory of former Moline Kiwanis member David Holst, who was active with this organization)

Mike Daly, Committee Chair of the Porky Committee, says “We are very proud that through this collection, we can contribute to local organizations who serve youth. As Kiwanians who provide community service and support, we are happy to provide some good cheer to these local organizations, especially during the holiday season.”

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child, and one community at a time.
