DAVENPORT, IOWA (October 1, 2026) — The Last Picture House will welcome prolific filmmaker Mark Pellington on October 5 with a screening of the documentary This is BUZZ, which explores the radical impact and lasting relevance of BUZZ, an avant-garde, genre-less MTV magazine series from the 1990s.
Pellington is one of the music video industry’s most accomplished filmmakers, having directed videos for artists such as Michael Jackson, Pearl Jam, U2, Public Enemy, Bruce Springsteen, Nine Inch Nails, Imagine Dragons, Linkin Park, and Foo Fighters, among others. His feature film credits include the cult classic The Mothman Prophecies, Arlington Road, and several other films with collaborators such as Ben Affleck, Shirley MacLaine, Amanda Seyfried, Luke Wilson, Rob Lowe, Jeremy Piven, Jon Hamm, Catherine Keener, Bruce Dern, Ellen Burstyn, and Bryan Cranston.
This is BUZZ will screen on Monday, October 5, 6:45PM, at The Last Picture House. The documentary will be followed by an in-person Q&A where filmmakers Scott Beck and Bryan Woods (A Quiet Place, Heretic) will speak with Mark Pellington, who will also present a special curated selection of director's cuts of his music videos (Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails, U2, Bruce Springsteen). Tickets are on sale at lastpicturehouse.com and will also be available in the lobby of The Last Picture House in downtown Davenport.
The event will also be filmed by the organization Cinema United (formerly known as the National Association of Theatre Owners), which is profiling The Last Picture House for a special video series that highlights important cinemas around the country.

About This Is BUZZ
This Is BUZZ is experimental and music-driven documentary, illustrating the tale of the seismically-influential, yet somehow forgotten, MTV slice-of-life docuseries BUZZ, which only ran for thirteen episodes in 1990. The show took an experimental approach to uncovering often undiscussed corners of global life. With fast-paced edits giving the show an avant-garde feel, the series would tackle specific subjects with each entry. This dream-like almost subliminal feel pre-dated the media oversaturation we feel today as we are drawn to a constant conveyor belt of content on platforms like TikTok and Instagram which act to familiarize us with cultures around the world.
And on top of it all, RuPaul was the show’s host.
