DES MOINES, IOWA (February 7, 2020) — The LPIA will conduct county level caucuses and conventions on February 8, 2020. Twenty-three county parties will meet to form their county committees, elect county leadership, and select delegates to the 2020 LPIA State Convention. We will hold a Presidential Preference Poll the same day and will release results the afternoon of Sunday, February 9. Additionally, The LPIA will be the first party organization in Iowa to hold a Virtual Caucus for rural Iowa Libertarians with disabilities or conflicts that will prevent attendance. The mission of the LPIA is to have the broadest-possible representation for our state delegation and to engage Libertarians of all walks in our caucus to convention process. Unlike our peers in the Republican or Democratic Party, our national delegate selection to the 2020 Libertarian National Convention will not be bound to caucus results or machine politics. Libertarian delegates are free to vote their conscience for our Libertarian Presidential candidates. Delegates selected at our caucus will attend the 2020 LPIA State Convention at Grand View University on February 29th to conduct party business and form our national convention delegation. Additionally the LPIA will host Iowa's first-ever LPIA Presidential Forum the same afternoon. Participants include former Rhode Island Governor and Senator Lincoln Chafee, New Hampshire Representative Max Abramson, Jacob Hornberger, Ken Armstrong, Souraya Faas, Mark Whitney, Adam Kokesh, Daniel Behrman, Sam Robb, and 1996 Libertarian Vice Presidential nominee Jo Jorgensen. The forum will be moderated by Adam Sullivan of the Cedar Rapids Gazette. About the Libertarian Party of Iowa: Founded in 1975, the LPIA has promoted Libertarian ideals and candidates for four decades. In 2018 the Libertarian Party had a record number of votes cast for Libertarian candidates and ran a record number of candidates. Nearly a dozen Libertarians are currently elected to county and city non-partisan offices and the party is concentrating on electing Libertarians to additional local offices in 2019. The Libertarian Party of Iowa has over 14,000 registered members and is the fastest growing political organization in Iowa.
