This past Tuesday, the biggest fundraiser of the year was held for In From the Cold...a not for profit organization dedicated to addressing the basic needs of homeless in the Quad Cities. The primary focus of this organization is to raise funds for homeless service providers in the Quad Cities so no person will have to live on the street, in an abandoned car or building, or in an unsafe condition.  It celebrated its 25th anniversary at the Mayor's Hunger Luncheon. Nine area mayors served a simple meal of soup and bread and encouraged all Quad Citians to "eat simply so that others may simply eat."  Along with the lunch there was raffle items.  All of the money generated will be used for next year's grant awards. Since its inception in 1992, In From the Cold has raised more than $340,000 for local agencies that directly assist the hungry and homeless. Some of our past grantees include: Salvation Army, Humility of Mary, Community Health Care, Inc., Goodwill, Vera French, Christian Care and many others. 100% of the money generated from the annual events will be distributed to agencies that address the issues of hunger and homelessness in our area.
