Bill extends Essential Air Service, continuing air service for small communities

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Dave Loebsack released the following statement today after the House passed the bipartisan Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act of 2018. Among several important provisions included in the bill, Loebsack worked to ensure the Essential Air Service (EAS) was extended and able to continue serving communities, such as Burlington. Additionally, the bill authorizes the FAA for five years, through 2023, and funds the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP).

“The Essential Air Service is a vital lifeline in order for our communities to provide commercial air service so that they can connect with the rest of the world. These airports also serve as engines of economic development for our local economies. I am pleased that this legislation recognizes the benefits that the EAS provides and will extend the life of this important economic development tool.”
