AMANA, Iowa- Come celebrate spring in the historical Amana Colonies! There’s a unique experience waiting for all ages during Maifest the traditional German Celebration of Spring May 6th and 7th.

The festivities will kick off on Saturday at 10:00AM, with a parade through the village of Amana. This year’s theme is “Windows to our Heritage”.   New this year at Maifest is “The World on Wheels Food Truck Fare” which features cuisine from around the globe.  There will be food trucks specializing in ethnic cuisine from Caribbean to Mediterranean to Southern BBQ not to mention Amana Brats, Potato Pancakes, and Beer.

Maifest’s “Arts in the Barn” has something for almost everyone with live Blue Grass music by the Riverbottom Ramblers during the afternoon, along with an Irish Dance Team. The visual arts are also represented by local artists’ displaying and selling their works and Paint and a Pint’s painting class, where you’ll have fun creating your own masterpiece. Saturday evening Hot Rod Lincoln takes charge as they “Rock the Trail”. It’s a fund raising dance for the Colonies’ recreational trail.

Of course, what would Maifest be without our famous Maipole Dancers? Stick around all weekend and see them perform at various locations.

For the kids- Kinderplatz will be open 11AM-1PM on Saturday with activities, games, and crafts for children to participate in, including pony rides. Many activities are free.

Sunday brings more fun as the Wine/Beer/Chocolate walk is back! Stroll through the beautiful village of Amana and try our famous wines, beer, and chocolate specialty treats, 11AM-4PM. You must be 21+ and there is $1.00 fee to participate.
