DAVENPORT, IOWA (May 28, 2026) — Davenport’s Main Street Landing will hit a major milestone as a large section of the pedestrian bridge will be put in place on Friday, May 29, 2026.

A prominent feature of the park, the largest bridge section is 110 feet long, sixteen feet wide, and weighs about 89,000 pounds. Valley Construction will use a crane to lift the bridge about forty feet in the air over the CPKC rail line. This is a complex operation that requires close collaboration between the City of Davenport team, Valley Construction crews, and the railroad. Train traffic will be shut down during a limited window of time 4:30-8:30AM to complete this maneuver safely.

Media is invited to take pictures and video of this event but must remain clear of the site in the designated staging area — the parking lot at River Drive and Perry Street. Given the scope of this project, railroad security guidelines, and site safety considerations, there can be no drone flights over or near the site. Any drone use could cause a shutdown of the operation.
