DAVENPORT, IOWA — A new Master of Science in Exercise Physiology program has been added to the graduate curriculum as St. Ambrose University prepares for a new academic year.

The new year at St. Ambrose begins with evening classes Aug. 21.  First-year students will arrive on campus a day earlier. Daytime courses begin Aug. 23.

The MSEP degree continues the growth of graduate degrees offered at St. Ambrose and extends the university’s commitment to students interested in careers in the health sciences fields. A graduate degree has become increasingly valuable for finding employment in professions such as cardiovascular rehabilitation and exercise science.

Also this year, undergraduate students in the growing Engineering and Physics Department at St. Ambrose will have access to three new laboratories.

The new labs were constructed in what had been residence hall space in Hayes Hall. They include a design center, a mechanical engineering lab and a maker space lab. The labs were equipped with support from the John Deere Foundation and the Arconic Foundation.

St. Ambrose also will debut three new varsity athletics programs this year, women’s lacrosse and men’s and women’s swimming and diving. The swimming and diving teams will host their first meet on Oct. 27 at the new Davenport Central High School pool, a dual meet vs. Augustana College. Women’s lacrosse will open its inaugural season in the spring.

Throughout the 2017-2018 academic year, St. Ambrose programs, lectures and performances will investigate Globalization, which will serve as the theme for the 10th annual College of Arts & Sciences Academic Project.

The university will host several national, international and regional conferences this coming year. These include the 14th Annual Ambrose Women for Social Justice Conference and Lecture exploring the topic of Globalization and Gender, Oct. 3; the St. Ambrose of Milan International Conference, April 6-7, 2018; the Global Impacts of Art & Design Conference, April 11-12; and the Iowa Network for Women in Higher Education Leadership Conference, April 19-20
