QUAD CITIES (January 7, 2020) — The Board of Directors of the Miss Blackhawk Valley Scholarship Program is pleased to announce the winners of the 71st annual scholarship competition held Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Rockridge High School.

Sophie Remmert (top) was named Miss Blackhawk Valley. A senior at Illinois State University, she is a double major in Music Education and Vocal Performance. The daughter of David and Lynn Remmert of Monticello, her social impact is “Arts for All — the Need for STEAM.” and her talent is operatic vocal.

The First Runner-up is Alexa Eastburg of Galesburg. A student at Coe College, her talent is vocal performance and her social initiative is “Strength Over Struggle-Advocating for Mental Health Awareness.”

The Second Runner-up is Mckenzi Mitchell of Moline. She is a student of Southern Illinois University. Her talents is vocal accompanied with her guitar and her social impact statement is “Reading is Fundamental.”

Regan Tucker (above), a Junior at Moline High School, was named Miss Blackhawk Valley’s Outstanding Teen. The daughter of Sara Tucker and Ladd Tucker, her talent is vocal performance and her platform is “Random Acts of Kindness — Volunteering in the Community.” and her talent is vocal performance.

The First Runner-up is Chassity Colburn a sophomore at Alleman High School. Her talent is jazz dance and her platform is “FLY First Love Yourself.”

There were $1,500 cash scholarships awarded to the participants and $24,000 in tuition grants made available to the participants. Miss Blackhawk Valley is an official local preliminary program of the Miss America Organization that is the largest provider of scholarships to women.
