December 13, 2017 - The Stan Woods Scholarship application is now available online. The $1,000 scholarship is based on community involvement and leadership, academic achievement and an essay.
Stan Woods was born on May 21, 1940. He married Janet Harrelson on June 8, 1968 in Little York, Illinois. He died February 7, 2011. He was the father of Mitchell and Scott (wife, Rachel) and grandfather to Logan and Abigail Woods.
Stan was a teacher/guidance counselor and Dean of Students for the Moline School District for 38 years, retiring in 2000. His enthusiasm for life, his love for learning, and a genuine compassion for students were a part of Stan's daily life at Moline High School. Some of his many activities at Moline High School included leadership for Share Joys, National Honor Society and Natural Helpers.

All scholarships must be submitted by midnight on Wednesday, March 16, 2018. All reference letters need to be mailed with a postmark on or before Wednesday, March 16, 2018. Reference letters should be mailed to: The Moline Foundation,
1601 River Drive, Suite 210, Moline IL 61265.
Scholarship candidates must:
- be a graduating senior from Moline High School.
- have maintained and provide proof of cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale during the first seven (7) semesters of high school.
- have been involved in a service-oriented activity or organization in his or her school, community or place of worship.
- enroll in college on a full-time basis. (with a minimum of 12 hours per semester). Proof of major and class schedule will be required.
- submit a transcript and an essay (200 words or less) "Explain what you have done to make your community a better place to live and give an example of one or more specific projects that have benefited from your involvement."
- submit two letters of reference; at least one from Moline High School faculty members, administrators, or counselors, and one from an individual (not related to the applicant) in the community.
