MOLINE, ILLINOIS (August 19, 2019) — The Moline Foundation announces the 2019 Vietnam Veterans of America QC Chapter 299 scholarship recipients:

1. Arron Kristof, Black Hawk College

2. Micah Douglas, Black Hawk College

3. William A. Schultz, St. Ambrose University

The local chapter established a fund in 2016 to support veterans who are pursuing a STEM or trade and technical post-secondary degree or certification. These three are the second group of individuals to receive these scholarships. Chapter 299 raises funds through individual and family donations, memorial gifts, and fundraisers such as barbeques, catering, and trivia nights. The scholarship, based on financial need, is utilized for school expenses including tuition, room, and board, and/or books, necessary tools, and related expenses for any year of student enrollment.

Ray Hamilton commented, “The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 299 created this scholarship and endowed it to ensure worthy local area veteran residents may obtain financial support in their educational endeavors whether it be academic, or trade related under the guidance of The Moline Foundation. This scholarship will continue in perpetuity long after Chapter 299 is gone, and it will stand as a legacy to the Chapter’s commitment to community service.”

In a brief 200-word essay describing his experience in the military, Kristof mentioned, “Now I have the confidence to achieve the goals in my life, a gift that I did not have before the Marine Corps.”
