MOLINE, ILLINOIS (March 10, 2021) — On the first day of early-voting in Rock Island County, Friday, March 12, residents of Moline are invited to a gathering to learn about the upcoming local elections and options for early-voting. The rally is scheduled 4-5PM at Prospect Park at the shelter on 31st Ave. in Moline, and will feature city council candidates Sangeetha Rayapati for Mayor, James Patrick Schmidt for Alderman-at-Large, Alvaro Macias for 2nd Ward Alderman, and Matt Timion for 4th Ward Alderman.

“This is an opportunity to educate our residents about the options they have when it comes to early-voting, voting by mail, and even how one can register to vote and exercise their right to vote,” says Moline Mayoral candidate and organizer Sangeetha Rayapati. “It’s also a chance to engage residents and make sense of how city government works and the role of the city council and mayor.”

Early-voting applications will be available for individuals to send in to the Rock Island County Clerk’s office, which will mail a ballot to the voter’s home.

“For some residents, printing out this form is a barrier that can impede them from voting in our upcoming election,” says 2nd Ward Alderman candidate Alvaro Macias. “In order to make change in our city, people need to have easy access to information that allows them to vote for the change they want to see in their municipality.”

COVID-safe protocols will be in place. Attendees are asked to wear a mask and maintain their social-distance. Election day for Moline is on Tuesday, April 6.
