MARION, IOWA (July 19, 2023) — Monarch Research (MR), a local organization dedicated to environmental conservation, is thrilled to announce the return of its “Planting Forward for Woodlands” tree restoration program. MR is offering landowners easy access to high-quality, low-cost native trees. As part of the overarching Planting Forward initiative, MR has earmarked a limited number of trees for the Woodlands program, supporting property owners throughout Linn County.

The Planting Forward for Woodlands program enables landowners to purchase anywhere between five and 150 trees, choosing from a diverse inventory of thirty native species. New this Fall, trees are available in two sizes: Three-gallon for $25 and seven-gallon for $50 (limited quantities). Landowners interested in participating in the Fall program are encouraged to visit the MR website, review the available species options, and place their orders early to ensure their desired selections are available. Online ordering will open on August 7 and continue until August 26. To place an order, please visit monarchresearch.org.

With the support of community partners, private donations, employers, dedicated staff, and a dedicated army of volunteers, the Planting Forward program has already distributed 61,000+ trees and has a goal of 75,000 trees by the end of 2023.

“The continued level of engagement and support from Linn County property-owners has been outstanding,” states Monarch Research founder Clark McLeod. “With each season, participation and interest in our Planting Forward programs continue to grow as more landowners, neighbors, friends, co-workers, and employers unite to make a difference.”

The Planting Forward tree and habitat restoration initiative is a true community effort. In addition to the Woodlands program, Monarch Research recently introduced the “One Child, One Tree — Growing Together” collaboration with Mery Medical Center and UnityPoint Health in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The program began June 1 and offers new parents the opportunity to plant a tree for each child. Visit monarchresearch.org to learn more.

"We appreciate the outstanding support we have received from the community," said Jim Hoffman, Planting Forward organizer, board member, and volunteer. "Together, we are making a difference by planting trees and restoring habitats, ensuring a healthier environment for future generations."
