DES MOINES, IOWA (Jan. 19, 2017) - Students in grades seven through eleven can now enter the eleventh annual Money Smart Kid essay contest and compete for the chance to win $1,000 to help boost their college savings. The statewide essay contest is sponsored by the Iowa Bankers Association.

Eligible students can enter the contest by writing an essay of 400 words or fewer, answering the: "Do you think there is a connection between financial health and physical health? Please explain your answer. What can you do to become more financially healthy?"

Essays are due by March 24. The student with the winning essay will be selected as Iowa's Money Smart Kid for 2017 and receive $1,000 toward college savings funded by the Iowa Bankers Association. The Iowa Bankers Association will also fund the other two finalists with $500 for their college savings.

The Money Smart Kid serves as an ambassador during Money Smart Week Iowa, which will be April 22-29 in several communities across the state. For more information about the Money Smart Kid essay contest, visit http://www.moneysmartweek.org/kids_competition.
