DES MOINES, IOWA (January 14, 2020) — In today's Condition of the State address, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds recommended fully funding the Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation Trust Fund in her 2020 budget. Voters approved the trust fund in 2010 to conserve Iowa's natural resources, but has remained unfunded for the past decade. As part of this announcement, Gov Reynolds recommended adjusting the original formula approved by voters.

"The Iowa Environmental Council is pleased that Gov Reynolds' intends to prioritize funding the Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation Trust Fund. Iowans approved making our water, land, and air a priority a decade ago and thus far have not seen meaningful improvement. IEC has long been a proponent of funding IWILL, and in recent months emphasized that upholding the integrity of the formula is key. We await more detail on the Governor's proposal and look forward to working with the Governor's staff and the Legislature this session," says Ingrid Gronstal Anderson, Water Program Director.
