BETTENDORF, IOWA (January 13, 2026) — Preparing for joint surgery involves more than the procedure itself. To help seniors feel more confident and prepared, Nelson Chiropractic recently hosted a Joint Surgery Preparation Workshop focused on supporting recovery through nutrition, home safety, mobility planning, and mental readiness.

The workshop provided a simple, checklist-based approach to help individuals preparing for hip, knee, shoulder, or other joint surgeries reduce stress and support smoother healing.

“Many people don’t realize that healing starts before surgery,” said Dr Traci Nelson-Johnson of Nelson Chiropractic.

“When patients prepare their body, home, and support system ahead of time, they often experience a safer and more comfortable recovery.”

Topics covered during the workshop included:

  • How nutrition supports the body before and after surgery;
  • Preparing the home to reduce fall risk and improve safety;
  • Meal preparation and hydration strategies during recovery;
  • Planning transportation and support following surgery; and
  • The importance of mental and emotional preparation for healing.

Attendees received a comprehensive handout outlining practical steps they can take before and after surgery, including guidance on nutrition, mobility, recovery planning, and calming the nervous system.

For those unable to attend the workshop held on January 14, Nelson Chiropractic encourages individuals preparing for joint surgery to reach out for additional information. The clinic offers education and guidance to help patients understand preparation strategies and recovery support options.

“Our goal is to empower seniors with information,” Dr Nelson-Johnson added. “Preparation brings confidence, and confidence supports better movement and healing.”
