Acts Amaze on Opening Day of Talent Search at Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES, IA (08/10/2017) (readMedia)-- Five talented Senior division acts (ages 13-21) have advanced to the semi-final round in Bill Riley's 58th annual Iowa State Fair Talent Search. Each act will perform again on Thursday, August 18, Friday, August 19 or Saturday, August 20.

The names, ages, hometowns and routines are:

Kiana Carlson, 18, Cedar Rapids, IA, Kylie Carlson, 16, Cedar Rapids, IA, Dance: Jazz Duet

Madelyn Janecek, 16, Washington, IA, Michaela Hoffman, Washington, IA, Dance: Clog Duet

Kaeli Verbrugge, 17, Eldridge, IA, Josie Lindle, 15, Eldridge, IA, Dance: Contemporary Jazz Dance Duet

Jillian Hess, 15, Johnston, IA, Vocal Solo

Niykayla Smith, 15, Montezuma, IA, Vocal Solo

Acts competed statewide to qualify for competition in this year's Talent Search. The championship round will take place on Sunday, August 20, at 1:30 p.m. on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage sponsored by Pepsi with media sponsor CW Iowa 23. Bill Riley, Jr. is once again hosting the show.

The first place winner will receive a prize of $8,000. The second and third place winners will be awarded $4,000 and $2,000, respectively. More than $17,000 will be awarded to the Senior and Sprout divisions combined. This year's contest is sponsored by Hy-Vee.

Hoof Farms Sweeps Away the Competition with Biggest Ram

DES MOINES, IA (08/10/2017) (readMedia)-- A Suffolk Cross ram named Big Billy owned by Hoof Farms of Villisca, Iowa tipped the scales at 397 pounds to win the Big Ram title at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Second place was claimed by Seelow Sheep Farm of State Center, Iowa. Their Rambouillet ram named Maynard weighed in at 385 pounds.

The 2017 Iowa State Fair Big Ram show had seven entries.

The Big Ram, along with the Big Boar and Super Bull, will be on display at the Iowa State Fair in the Sheep, Swine and Cattle Barns, respectively, through August 20.

McDonald Acres Boar Claims Iowa State Fair Crown

DES MOINES, IA (08/10/2017) (readMedia)-- "Big Buck," a Hampshire boar from Ryan, bested the competition to claim the Big Boar title at the 2017 Iowa State Fair. The champion boar owned by McDonald Acres tipped the scale at 1,192 pounds.

"Big Chief," owned by Charlie Bieber and Ken Kehrli of Winthrop, claimed second place weighing 1,162 pounds.

The Big Boar contest had 10 entries.

The Big Boar, as well as the Big Ram and Super Bull, will be on display at the Iowa State Fair in the Swine, Sheep and Cattle Barns respectively through August 20.

Little Dancers, Singers and Piano Players Top Iowa State Fair Talent Search

DES MOINES, IA (08/10/2017) (readMedia)-- Five talented Sprout division acts (ages 2-12) have advanced to the semi-final round in Bill Riley's 58th annual Iowa State Fair Talent Search. Each act will perform again on Thursday, August 17, Friday, August 18 or Saturday, August 19.

Bill Riley, Jr. is once again hosting the competition. Two Sprout acts will be crowned champions every day of the semi-finals. The six winning acts will perform in the talent-packed championship set for Sunday, August 20 at 1:30 p.m. on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage sponsored by Pepsi and media sponsor CW Iowa 23.

Each of the six Sprout Champions will receive a prize of $250 after the Championship Show. More than $17,000 will be awarded to the Senior and Sprout divisions combined. This year's contest is sponsored by Hy-Vee.

Spear Farm Tops Iowa State Fair Super Bull Competition

DES MOINES, IA (08/10/2017) (readMedia)-- "Upward," the 2,798 pound Angus bull owned by Marvin Spear of Indianola, outweighed the competition to win the Super Bull contest judged Thursday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Moody Farms of Maxwell, took second place with their 2,766 pound Simmental bull, "Boardwalk," and Kokemiller Farms of Madrid took third place with his 2,567 pound Hereford bull, "Vern."

"Upward," as well as the Big Boar and Big Ram, will be on display at the Iowa State Fair in the Cattle, Swine and Sheep Barns, respectively, through August 20.
