Throughout March, 2018

Did you know that 13,390 Quad City area children do not have access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food? This March the Quad City Symphony Orchestra will team up with River Bend Food Bank to raise funds, collect food donations, and pull together volunteers to work towards the goal of ending hunger in the Quad Cities.

How You Can Help

MONETARY DONATION One of the most impactful gifts our supporters can give River Bend Foodbank is a monetary donation. Because of the Foodbank’s low cost of operation, we are able to provide 5 meals for every dollar donated! So if you are thinking of going to the store to buy food specifically to donate to River Bend, we ask that you don’t purchase the food, but instead donate the money to make the most of your gift.

When donating, please mention the QCSO in the comment field.

DONATE NOW

FOOD DONATION While monetary donations to River Bend Foodbank are preferred, food donations are welcome as well. If you have food in your home that you are not going to eat or has “expired,” please consider donating it to River Bend rather than throwing it away. Or if you prefer to purchase food, we ask that you buy food that you personally would like to eat.    THE MOST-NEEDED FOOD ITEMS ARE:

  • Canned meats
  • Canned stews and chili
  • Peanut butter
  • Canned soups
  • Tuna
  • Cereal
  • Canned vegetables and fruits

Food donations can be made at the QCSO Office throughout the month of March, and River Bend Foodbank representatives will be present at both performances of Masterworks V: Postcards from Germany & Austria on March 3 & 4.

River Bend Food Bank Volunteer Event Backpack Packing Saturday, March 3, 2018 | 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

One of the most important programs executed by the River Bend Food Bank, is their Backpack Program. This partnership with area schools and non-profits provides bags, placed discreetly in a backpack, with enough nutritious food to sustain a child throughout the weekend. The QCSO is assembling a group to help the River Bend Food Bank assemble the bags of food at the food bank facility in Davenport on the morning of March the 3rd.  If you are interested in volunteering with the QCSO Musicians, Board, Staff, and Volunteers please sign up using the online form

ABOUT ORCHESTRAS FEEDING AMERICA
The League of American Orchestras first joined forces with Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger relief organization, in 2009. More than 215 orchestras in all 50 states participated in an unprecedented coordinated effort by collecting and donating food to their local food assistance agency or food bank within Feeding America’s network of more than 200 food banks and 60,000 agencies.  Over the past eight years, Orchestras Feeding America has seen over 360 orchestras from across the country collect and donate nearly 500,000 pounds of food.  The efforts of these orchestras have helped spread the word about how and why orchestras are so necessary to their communities and shows the power orchestras have to bring people together.
