
DUBUQUE, IOWA (August 5, 2026) — German American organist Jens Korndörfer DMus, will perform at the sixth annual John and Alice Butler Pipe Organ Recital Series at 3PM, Sunday, September 13, in John and Alice Butler Hall, Heritage Center, University of Dubuque (UD). The recital is part of the 14th annual Live at Heritage Center Performing Arts Series.
Korndörfer, the Joyce O Bowden Professor of Music and an associate professor of organ at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, is regularly invited to perform and teach at prestigious venues and festivals around the world. His repertoire reaches from the Renaissance to the 21st century, including both transcriptions and world premieres. Korndörfer has released five CDs on major instruments in France, Japan, Canada, and the USA. Most recently, his collection of ten festive hymn introductions and re-harmonizations was published by MorningStar Music.
In addition to teaching organ performance, service playing, and improvisation, Korndörfer also founded the annual National High School Organ Competition, organizes annual study trips and performance opportunities at prestigious venues for his studio, and directs Baylor’s Summer Organ Camp.
He has won numerous prizes and awards, including from the Canadian International Organ Competition, the German Academic Exchange Service, the Oberlin Conservatory, and the Government of Quebec.
The John and Alice Butler Pipe Organ was dedicated in May 2021 and has 3,033 pipes. The pipe organ has enhanced campus events and been utilized as a practice and recital instrument. UD Trustee John Butler (’17) and his late spouse, Alice (’17), gifted the instrument. Dobson Pipe Organ Builders built and installed the pipe organ — the 97th new organ built by the firm.

The box office is open 11AM-2PM, Thursdays and Fridays, as well as ninety minutes prior to events. Tickets cost $16; UD faculty/staff receive one free ticket. UD students free. Additionally, $10 non-UD student rush tickets will be available at the Farber Box Office one hour before Live at Heritage Center events. High school or university ID required.
The Heritage Performing Arts Loyalty System (H-PALS) allows patrons to earn rewards with most ticket purchases. For every $200 spent on eligible events, patrons will receive one free ticket (valued up to $50) to their choice of eligible event.
