The Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GQCHCC) will host its eighth Annual Gala on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at the Quad Cities Waterfront Convention Center in Bettendorf. Maria Hinojosa, award-winning journalist and founder of Futuro Media Group, will keynote the event with a presentation titled, "Latinx on the frontlines: The canaries in the mine of due process denials."
Hinojosa’s organization is an independent nonprofit producing multimedia journalism that explores and gives a critical voice to the diversity of the American experience. Executive producer of the Peabody Award-winning show Latino USA, Hinojosa’s work is heard locally on WVIK Quad Cities 90.3 FM.
In addition to the keynote, the Annual Gala is also a celebration of the chamber’s accomplishments, members, and supporters. It will feature entertainment, dinner, networking and presentation of the annual business awards. The 2017 award winners include: Small Business of the Year—Carmen’s Jewelry, Corporation of the Year—City of Davenport, Advocate of the Year—Juanita & Abel Zertuche, and Nonprofit of the Year—Global Communities.
