The first annual Power of Wo is an awareness-raising musical event that both celebrates women in the musical arts in the Eastern Iowa/ Western Illinois area of the Quad Cities region and supports local women in need. Not only does this event spotlight local women artists and musicians, but it serves to provide women in need with feminine hygiene products and basic items of necessity. 10% of all ticket proceeds will go to purchasing tampons, pads, and basic items like notebooks and pens. We will donate these items to both Humility of Mary Shelter and Winnie's Place of Churches United.

The average woman in America will use 16,800 tampons or pads over the course of her lifetime, but many homeless women make their own hygiene products out of toilet paper and paper towels. The LA Times reports that hygiene products are among “the most requested items at food pantries and homeless shelters — but organizations rarely have enough pads, tampons and liners to meet the needs of their clients." Twenty-three women are sleeping in one of the QCAs shelters tonight. Our main priority is to get basic and often-overlooked items to local women in need.

The event will be held this week on Friday, April 13th at the Renwick Mansion located at 901 Tremont Ave, Davenport, IA 52803 and features a diverse line-up of women-fronted bands and solo artists. The musical acts showcase a variety of musical styles ranging from Americana, Folk, Rock, Hip-Hop, Rap and modern R&B. The full line-up includes: BEEs, Molly Durnin, Waking Robots, Mo and Amy, NDVDL, Lyssa Cordero, Baby Jayne and Jenny Lynn Stacy. Tickets are $15 and are available on the Renwick website, https://renwickmansion.net/, the link https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-power-of-wo-tickets-43728021690. or at the door on the day of the event.
