DAVENPORT, IOWA (May 11, 2026) — The Quad Cities Bicycle Club will sponsor the Ride of Silence on Wednesday, May 20.
The ride will take off from Schwiebert Riverfront Park in Rock Island at 6 p.m. and return at about 7:30 p.m. Riders are required to wear helmets, ride in a group at a pace of no more than 12 miles per hour, and observe all traffic and safety rules. Those participating should also remain silent throughout the ride, in memory of all cyclists who were killed or injured while riding.
Along with a helmet, cyclists taking the Ride of Silence should wear bright clothing and are also encouraged to bring lights, flashers, and a friend.
The goal of the Ride of Silence is to pay homage to those who have been injured or lost their lives while cycling on public roadways, and also to raise awareness among law enforcement, public officials, and members of the public of the legal presence of cyclists on public roadways, and the need to respect the rights of those riding bicycles.
The local Ride of Silence is one of more than 200 that are expected to take place in 38 states across the nation and 11 nations around the world. This is the 24th year for the Ride of Silence, which is usually scheduled for the third Wednesday in May. Learn more at the Ride of Silence website, at rideofsilence.org.
All cyclists, whether they belong to the QCBC or not, are welcome to join the Ride of Silence. More information is available from Dean or Deb Mathias, at mathiasdebdean@peoplepc.com.
