QUAD CITIES (March 4, 2019) — The Quad City Symphony Orchestra (QCSO) invites you to embrace the Drama of the Human Experience with six dynamic Masterworks, four spectacular Pops, and four intimate Signature Series concerts all exploring the highs and lows of being human through the power of live music.   “We are excited to present a dynamic season that tells of the Human Experience,” said QCSO Music Director and Conductor Mark Russell Smith. “We celebrate the legacy of Walt Whitman, whose words you’ll hear through the lens of John Adams and a QCSO Commission by composer David Dzubay. We commemorate the 100thAnniversary of Veteran’s Day with performances of Shostakovich’s 7th Symphony. We turn to two of the great opera composers, Verdi and Wager, to tell us of love and loss. Add Prokofiev’s amazing ballet score for Romeo and Juliet, Brahms’ First Symphony, and the Quad City music lovers are in for another season of stimulating and powerful concerts.”   A major highlight of the season is a the QCSO’s semi-staged production of Wagner’s Die Walküre, Act I, which will feature the North American premiere of Projection Designer Peter Mumford’s celebrated multimedia production. Three screens suspended above the orchestra will showcase captivating video projections to enhance the narrative. “This performance in particular is a tremendous undertaking for our orchestra,” states QCSO Executive Director Brian Baxter. “This production is going to be stunning and unlike almost anything we’ve presented on our Masterworks series.”   For this summer’s Quad City Bank & Trust Riverfront Pops, the QCSO will present the Music of Queen.  Featuring Guest Conductor Brent Havens and vocalist Brody Dolyniuk, audiences will rock out to Queen’s greatest hits including “Under Pressure”, “A Crazy Little Thing Called Love”, “Bohemian Rhapsondy”, and more.   QCSO will build upon the success of our film series, now branded as QCSO at the Movies by being among one of the first orchestras in the nation to present Disney ·Pixar’s Coco™ in Concert Live to Film. “The beauty of our film series is not simply that the music experienced live with the original movie is a transformative experience but that we are engaging a whole new audience with the symphony,” said Baxter. “We are now presenting QCSO at the Movies as a series and will soon introduce exclusive movie subscription options for patrons to secure their seats for all three movies.”   Ticket sales to 2019-20 Season Concerts open first to Subscribers on March 2, 2019 at 8:15PM and then to the general public on May 15, 2019 at 9AM.
