WASHINGTON DC (March 27, 2023) — Representative Eric Sorensen (IL-17)  delivered a speech on the floor of the House of Representatives on March 25 congratulating the Moline High School boys’ basketball team for winning their first ever 4A State Championship Title.

“Under Head Coach Sean Taylor, The Maroons demonstrated intense perseverance and skill, securing a 59-42 victory after an impressive 35-win season,” said Rep Sorensen during his speech. “I know this group’s hard work and determination are a source of pride for the entire Moline community and for the state of Illinois, and it’s my honor to recognize them here on the floor of the House of Representatives today.”

The Moline High School Maroons beat the Lisle Benet Academy Redwings on Saturday, March 11, 2023, securing a 4A championship title for the first time in school history.

Representative Eric Sorensen is the first openly LGBTQ person elected to represent Illinois at the federal level and is a member of the New Democrat Coalition. He serves on the House Committee on Agriculture and the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. Prior to serving in Congress, Sorensen was a local meteorologist in Rockford and the Quad Cities for nearly twenty years. His district includes Illinois’ Quad Cities, Rockford, Peoria, and Bloomington-Normal.
