ALBIA, IOWA (May 1, 2019) — Today, Representative John Delaney toured Big River Resources in West Burlington, Iowa and discussed the benefits of value-added agriculture in rural America. Rep Delaney was joined by Focus on Rural America Chair Lieutenant Governor Patty Judge, who has served Iowa as Lieutenant Governor and as Iowa’s Secretary of Agriculture. “It’s good to see candidates coming to rural Iowa and visiting industries that have such a profound impact on our communities,” said Lt Gov Judge. “I want to thank Repe Delaney for his visit and encourage all 2020 candidates to tour Iowa biofuel facilities. Added-value agriculture is a major part of rural economies, and biofuel facilities contribute a great deal to Democratic values regarding job security, emissions reductions, and economic stability. “If Democrats are going to win the White House, we have to engage with rural Americans in a meaningful way and have a plan to revitalize these communities. You can’t achieve that until you show up and partner with rural residents. Candidates should view ethanol facilities as a good place to start that conversation.” As candidates consider the 2020 elections, engaging with rural voters and supporting policies important to rural communities will be critical.
