Campaign for governor will continue with certain restrictions
Charles City, Iowa – Last month, State Rep. and Lt. Colonel Todd Prichard of Charles City announced that he will be going to Bulgaria for a three-week exercise beginning July 16th as part of his service in the U.S. Army Reserve. Today, his campaign for governor released additional details about his time overseas, his restrictions as a candidate while on active duty, and what his campaign will be doing in his absence.
“I have dedicated my life to serving my community, state, and country,” said Rep. Todd Prichard. “I have been proud to serve in the Armed Forces, just as I have been as a state legislator and county prosecutor. While I will be off the campaign trail for three weeks, my campaign to fight for the Iowans who have been forgotten by the Reynolds administration will proceed in my absence. I look forward to returning to the campaign trail in early August and continuing the fight for every Iowan.”
Exercise Saber Guardian
Prichard is a lieutenant colonel in the 103rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command of the U.S. Army Reserve and is serving overseas as part of Exercise Saber Guardian 2017. Exercise Saber Guardian is a multinational exercise under U.S. European Command’s Joint Exercise Program (JEP). It enhances joint and combined interoperability across a variety of mission sets between Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, the United States, NATO allies, and Partnership for Peace nations. U.S. Army Europe leads Saber Guardian 2017.
21 Days of Organizing
While Rep. Prichard is off the campaign trail, his campaign will continue to organize volunteers, raise resources, and participate in events across the state. Today the campaign announced a 21 Days of Organizing effort to continue to communicate with Iowa voters in Rep. Prichard’s absence. Specifically, the campaign will be organizing volunteers to speak on Rep. Prichard’s behalf at party events, make phone calls, knock doors, write letters to the editor, and organize in their communities.
Restrictions While on Active Duty
Rep. Prichard’s service will take him off the campaign trail for three weeks. During his duty overseas, he will be prevented from having an active role in his campaign. Department of Defense Directive Number 1344.10 outlines Rep. Prichard’s personal restrictions while on active duty. A few highlights include: Rep. Prichard may not send written communications or fundraising solicitations in his name, the campaign may not update the website ToddPrichard.com or run advertisements in the media.
Rep. Todd Prichard’s Military Service
