Prichard launches campaign for governor, begins “Every Iowan Tour”
Charles City, Iowa - Vowing to fight for the Iowans left behind, State Representative Todd Prichard launched his campaign for governor this morning in his hometown of Charles City. This was the first of three planned stops on Tuesday as part of his ongoing “Every Iowan Tour.” “My name is Todd Prichard, and I want to be your next governor for a pretty simple reason - I love Iowa; I’m worried about the path we’re on; and I believe we’ve got to fight to change course,” Prichard said to a crowd of supporters. “For years, we’ve watched as the Branstad-Reynolds Administration has taken care of big corporations and the wealthy – while leaving Iowa’s working people behind, especially in small communities like mine. This has become The Forgotten Iowa – the people far outside the spotlight of Des Moines who may be 20 or 200 miles away, but when taken together, are too often a world apart. It is time we have a governor that will fight for them and raise wages across all Iowa communities.” During his remarks, Prichard outlined the first of several upcoming policy initiatives to be announced during the campaign, including a scholarship program making community college free to every Iowan to grow the economy in all 99 counties and vowing to sign an executive order on day one of his administration restoring collective bargaining rights for public employees. “My wife, Ann, has been a public school teacher for ten years. I know firsthand the difference that having a great teacher can mean to a child,” Prichard commented. “And every single one of our kids deserves to go to a school with great teachers helping to shape their minds and open up their imaginations. Every child deserves a shot at going to college and getting a good job that pays a decent wage. Just eight years from now, two-thirds of the jobs in our state will require some sort of higher education. That’s why one of my first priorities as governor will be offering free community college to Iowans, no matter where they come from.” Prichard launched the campaign this morning with a video discussing the challenges facing Iowa and why he is running for governor. As part of the campaign announcement, Prichard announced long-time labor leader Marcia Nichols of Knoxville will serve as campaign chair. The Todd Prichard for Governor campaign has already received donations or commitments totaling nearly $150,000. Todd Prichard vowed to run the campaign needed to lift up every Iowan. “If we really listen to the good, hardworking people of Iowa; If we really fight for blue collar families, if we really join together as people of good conscience from any party – then we will not only win this election – we will make Iowa a place, for this generation and the next, where you can raise a family with big dreams and real hope in making them come true.” Today’s stop in Charles City was the first stop on Prichard’s “Every Iowan Tour.” The tour will continue over the coming weeks and visit communities large and small to discuss the challenges facing our state and what we can do lift up every Iowan.
