IOWA CITY, IOWA (May 8, 2019) — For the second consecutive night, the Quad Cities River Bandits shut out the Lansing Lugnuts in a 6-0 win at Banks Field in Iowa City on Wednesday. The River Bandits have won nine consecutive games and will finish off the first half with a 9-0 record against the Eastern Division.

The River Bandits (21-10) raced out of the gate by scoring in the first inning for the third time in the series. With one out in the frame, Jonathan Lacroix worked a walk-off of Lansing starter Juan De Paula. Jeremy Pena followed by launching his second home-run of the season to put the River Bandits in front 2-0. Pena’s round-tripper was the first for either team in the series.

Quad Cities pulled away with a big second inning. Cesar Salazar and Carlos Machado opened the inning with back-to-back singles in front of Trey Dawson. Dawson drove both of them in with one swing of the bat, hooking a double down the left field line to double the lead. Before the inning ended, Michael Wielansky added his first RBI in a River Bandits uniform to increase the advantage to 5-0.

The final run for the River Bandits crossed the plate in the fifth inning. Dawson doubled for the second time in the game with two outs in the frame. The next batter, Ross Adolph, followed with a roller to the right side that was gloved and then thrown away by second-baseman Rafael Lantigua, allowing Dawson to score.

The Bandits received a pair of hits from four different players in their lineup. Dawson was 2-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs batted in. Pena reached base three times in the game with two walks and the home run.

Four River Bandits pitchers combined to shut out the Lugnuts (14-18). Starter Nivaldo Rodriguez worked the first 4.0 innings of the contest before handing the ball to Jojanse Torres, who covered the next 3.0. Devin Conn worked the eighth inning and then Riley Cabral closed the game in the ninth. The quartet combined to strike out 13 Lansing hitters in the game.

The River Bandits will next return to action on Monday, May 13 at Cedar Rapids for a doubleheader beginning at 5:30PM. Both games are scheduled for seven innings. The Bandits series against Great Lakes scheduled for May 9-11 was cancelled by the Midwest League on Wednesday afternoon.
