DAVENPORT, IA (January 25, 2019) — Today River Bend Foodbank announced that our community has reached a historic milestone in our mission to close the meal gap in eastern Iowa and western Illinois. Currently, in the counties served by River Bend Foodbank, 120,930 people are missing 20.7 million meals. This equates to 1 in 8 people and 1 in 5 children.

But with renewed commitment and the incredible contributions of our community partners, we are getting closer to making sure that those in need no longer go hungry.

Here is what has changed:

• 2014: 7.3 million meals were distributed in eastern Iowa and western Illinois.

• 2015: The River Bend Board of Directors set a strategic goal to triple that distribution over the following 10 years.

• 2018: 15,118,295 meals were distributed — just 6 million short of the 2025 goal!

“Congratulations to everyone in the entire community for distributing twice as many meals as just four years ago,” said Michael Miller, President & CEO of River Bend Foodbank. “There are so many people to thank — a very dedicated board and staff, thousands of volunteers, food and financial donors, and hundreds of partner agencies. We celebrate reaching this milestone, then press on toward the goal of tripling meal distribution by 2025, because that is what it will take to end hunger in our communities.”

River Bend Foodbank asks that everyone in the 23 counties they serve join them in celebrating this milestone and to continue to work together to solve hunger in our communities. Together we can!
