DES MOINES, IOWA (December 2, 2025) — Iowa State Treasurer Roby Smith, a seasoned financial leader, has announced he will seek re-election to a second term as State Treasurer. Smith, who was first elected to the position in 2022, is committed to continuing his work to enhance Iowa’s financial stability of public funds, improve fiscal transparency, and expand financial literacy across the state.

“Since Iowans elected me in 2022, I’ve worked to ensure our state is putting its best foot forward fiscally and fought to prioritize fiscal responsibility for the state’s investments,” said State Treasurer Smith.

“Even with this, there’s more work to be done, and I’m running for re-election because Iowans deserve a State Treasurer who will continue to prioritize these issues and ensure tax-payers have a steward who works to make families and businesses thrive, no matter the ZIP code or county.”

During Smith’s first term, he oversaw the implementation of investment strategies that generated record returns for Iowa's public funds, becoming the fastest Treasurer to surpass $1 billion in earnings, a feat he completed in less than three years.

In addition to record earnings, Smith has reached an unprecedented milestone for most money turned over to the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt and a record for unclaimed funds returned back to Iowans. Smith also helped break the ceiling with the state’s direct-sold ISave 529 College Savings Plan with 7.6 billion in assets under management. In addition, he has championed programs to improve financial literacy and empower Iowans to help save, invest and plan for the future.

Before Smith’s tenure as State Treasurer, he served in the Iowa Senate representing the voices of District 47 in Scott County as the Chair of State Government.
