The public is invited to enjoy a free readers' theater performance about Sylvan Island on Sunday afternoon, May 6, 2018, at 2:00pm. The presentation – under the joint sponsorship of River Action and Moline Parks will visit some of the major areas in the park where the present and the past meld into each other under the glow of romance. During the play, nine performers/readers will lead the audience on a walk along the park's main path.
The drama is entitled, “The Romance of Sylvan Island,” and it involves a young couple on a walk in which people from the island's past who knew and loved the island “appear” before them. In the process they stop and find out about the Tom Roger's Visitors' Center, the Moline Water Power Dam, what once was the stone quarry, the Arsenal Dam, and the remains of the Republic Steel facility.
The play is about forty-five minutes long and involves a walk of about a mile. Admission is free. It begins at the new Sylvan Island bridge, just off Moline's 1st Avenue at the Moline/Rock Island border.
