Dedication To Be Held May 5
IA/IL QUAD-CITIES – The Rotary Club of Bettendorf has created an educational outdoor space, Rotary Row, at Faye’s Field with the support and assistance of their project partners: the Bettendorf Park Board, the Bettendorf Public Library Foundation Board, the Family Museum Foundation Board, and Bettendorf City Council. A dedication ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2017, at Faye's Field, 2850 Learning Campus Drive, Bettendorf, IA.
Donated by the Rotary Club of Bettendorf and the Rotary Foundation, Rotary Row features five permanent large outdoor musical instruments, including hand drums and four aluminum chimes. “The Rotary’s focus on our area’s young people has made this a perfect opportunity for a partnership with Bettendorf,” said Jonna Schuler, President of the Rotary Club of Bettendorf. “Rotary Row enhances a beautiful green space which is a great destination for families, as well as seniors, and groups of all ages.”
Rotary Row was installed in April 2017 in the southeast corner of Faye’s Field, named after Faye Clow, who led the Bettendorf Public Library for 30 years. She played an integral role in the development of Bettendorf's Learning Campus and was the first female president of the Bettendorf Rotary from 1993 to 1994. She retired from the library in 2008 and passed away in early 2011. That same year, the Bettendorf City Council approved a resolution to name a green space “Faye's Field,” to be built on the site of the former Eagle's Country Market in Bettendorf. The green space is often used for picnics, reading, and children’s activities, as well as outdoor concerts in the summer.
“Faye Clow was passionate about the arts,” Schuler said, “and we believe that she would have been delighted by Rotary Row – especially the big musical instruments.”
