MUSCATINE, IOWA (October 28, 2026) — The Roy J Carver Charitable Trust awarded Crossroads Inc.

$200,000 to support its new Day Habilitation facility at 2206 Lucas Street in Muscatine. The grant will help remove barriers that have prevented some people with disabilities from participating in services while reducing the financial burden of the $600,000 project.

For people like Abe, the new facility offers the opportunity to reconnect with a meaningful part of daily life. Before the pandemic, Abe attended Crossroads Day Habilitation, where he enjoyed dancing to music, cooking activities, outings, and time with friends. He has been unable to return because the current facility lacks the accessible space and specialized equipment needed to support him safely. The new location is designed to remove those barriers so he can participate again.

“Everyone deserves the opportunity to build friendships, make choices, and have a meaningful place in their community,” said Marc Hines, CEO of Crossroads.

“For someone who has been waiting to return to friends and activities they love, an accessible building can change everyday life. We are deeply grateful to the Roy J Carver Charitable Trust for helping make those opportunities possible.”

Crossroads currently serves approximately thirty people per day in its Muscatine Day Habilitation program, with approximately thirty others waiting to begin services or receive additional service time. The new facility will support approximately sixty distinct program slots during its first year through expanded space, extended hours, and scheduled service periods.

Features include a life-skills kitchen, a sensory room, accessible activity areas, and specialized personal-care facilities. These improvements will help participants practice daily-living skills, receive individualized support, and take part in activities that strengthen confidence and independence. More flexible scheduling will also support families and care-givers who rely on dependable daytime services.

Crossroads began renovations using bridge financing so people would not have to wait for every fundraising decision before work could proceed. The Roy J Carver Charitable Trust award will help replace that temporary financing with permanent philanthropic support.

Additional contributions remain welcome. Crossroads will repay project costs not covered by charitable support, making each additional gift an opportunity to reduce debt and preserve operating resources for disability services and Senior Resources programming.

“The generosity of the Roy J Carver Charitable Trust reaches beyond the walls of this new facility,” said Ken Brooks, Development Director at Crossroads.

“Every dollar contributed reduces the debt Crossroads must repay and preserves more of our resources for the people who depend on us and staff members that provide care. This gift helps create new opportunities in Day Habilitation while strengthening our ability to sustain services for people with disabilities and older adults throughout our community.”

Crossroads hopes to move into the facility in November and is planning a December ribbon-cutting celebration. Details will be announced as arrangements are finalized.

Community members, businesses, and organizations interested in contributing to the project or learning more can contact Ken Brooks at kbrooks@crossroadsmuscatine.org or 563-263-3545.
