MUSCATINE, IA – November 2017 –Gilda’s Club is hosting our FREE Salva una Mujer Más (Save One More Woman) Hispanic Breast Health Awareness Luncheon Saturday, November 4, 2017 at noon at Flickinger Learning Center (413 Mulberry Avenue, Muscatine, IA). Hispanic women concerned about breast health are invited to join us for a free lunch and conversation about Breast Health. Dr. Colette Hostetler, UnityPoint Health – Trinity Muscatine, will talk about prevention, screening, and treatment of breast cancer. According to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, over 40,000 women and over 400 men die each year from breast cancer. The Komen Quad Cities 2015 Community Profile Report identified three target communities: Clinton County, IA; Muscatine County, IA; and Mercer County, IL. These communities were chosen based on review of the following key indicators:   *   Incidence Rates   *   Death Rates   *   Later-Stage diagnosis   *   Mammography screening percentages   *   Demographic and socioeconomic measures “In Iowa, Muscatine County leads the target communities with a rising late-state breast cancer diagnosis rate of 45.5 (compared to 43.8 at the national level),” said Hendershot. “The county also has a higher Hispanic/Latina population than other Komen affiliate service areas.” *Rate are age-adjusted and are figured per 100,000 women.
