ALEDO, IL – October 2017 –Gilda’s Club is hosting our FREE Save One More Woman Breast Health Awareness Presentation for the Aledo community on Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria at Genesis Medical Center, Aledo (409 NW Ninth Avenue, Aledo, IL). Men and women concerned about breast health are invited to join us for a free dinner and conversation about Breast Health. Kelly Hendershot, LMSW, a program manager at Gilda’s Club, will talk about prevention, screening, and treatment of breast cancer. According to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, over 40,000 women and over 400 men die each year from breast cancer. The Komen Quad Cities 2015 Community Profile Report identified three target communities: Clinton County, IA; Muscatine County, IA; and Mercer County, IL. These communities were chosen based on review of the following key indicators: * Incidence Rates * Death Rates * Later-Stage diagnosis * Mammography screening percentages * Demographic and socioeconomic measures “Mercer County has both a high incidence rate* (139.8, compared to 122.1 at the national level) and late-state diagnosis rate (60.5, compared to 43.8 at the national level) of breast cancer,” said Hendershot. “These statistics drove us to partner with Genesis Medical Center, Aledo for their month of Breast Cancer Awareness events.” *Rate are age-adjusted and are figured per 100,000 women.
