DAVENPORT, IOWA (September 9, 2019) — The second annual TEDxYouth@Davenport event will be held at the Putnam Museum in Davenport, Iowa on March 29, 2020. The event will focus on having youth presenters, between the ages of 15-24, share "ideas worth spreading". Today officially opens the “call for speakers” applications, open to Quad Cities area high school and regional college students.

Launched in 2009, TEDx is a program of locally organized events that bring the community together to share a TED-like experience. Some of the best talks from TEDx events have gone on to be featured on TED.com and garnered millions of views from audiences across the globe.

At TEDxYouth@Davenport, attendees will engage with other open-minded idea-seekers in a half-day-long exploration of powerful ideas and unique experiences designed to inspire, inform, and challenge.

“TEDxYouth@Davenport is focused on providing our community’s youth a platform to share new ideas, to highlight our young, innovative, and aspirational Quad Citizens who have the potential for pushing boundaries and transforming our region,” said Andrea Olson, TEDxYouth@Davenport Director.

TEDxYouth@Davenport is putting out a Call for Speakers for our upcoming 2020 event.

TEDxYouth@Davenport is seeking young speakers from all backgrounds across the Quad Cities region, who have an idea worth spreading and a passion to share it. They are seeking speakers to present bold, radical ideas that challenge standard conceptions, present new understandings of our world, or uniquely add to established bodies of work.

Talks are required to be well-formatted, visually inspiring, and act as a launching point both for their idea and themselves. Speaker applications can be remitted online at http://www.tedxdavenport.com/speak-at-tedx and require the submission of a 3-minute video describing your proposed presentation.

Speaker applications are due by December 1st, 2019.

TEDxYouth@Davenport is also actively seeking event and program sponsors. TEDx events in the Quad Cities are supported and led by the Growth Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading new ideas and perspectives across the Quad Cities region.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

About TED

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or fewer) delivered by today's leading thinkers and doers. Many of these talks are given at TED's annual conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, and made available, free, on TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Monica Lewinsky, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.

TED's open and free initiatives for spreading ideas include TED.com, where new TED Talk videos are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from thousands of volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed; the annual million-dollar TED Prize, which funds exceptional individuals with a "wish," or idea, to create change in the world; TEDx, which provides licenses to thousands of individuals and groups who host local, self-organized TED-style events around the world; and the TED Fellows program, which selects innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
