WASHINGTON DC (March 26, 2020) — Prepared Floor Remarks by US Senator Charles "Chuck" Grassley honoring Dr Norman Borlaug:

In honor of Iowa History Month, I would like to speak about one of Iowa’s favorite sons: Dr Norman Borlaug, whose birthday is today.

Raised on a farm near Cresco, Iowa, Borlaug is credited with saving more lives than anyone in history with his breakthroughs in agronomy.

His work helped to overcome malnutrition and famine across the world, saving over one billion lives in the process.

His achievements won him the Nobel Peace Prize, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the Congressional Gold Medal.

His achievements also prompted the State of Iowa to honor him with one of Iowa’s two statues in the Statuary Hall collection here in the US Capitol.
